Tips for Dealing with Depression

Recently, we introduced Dr. Erika Forbes, a professor of Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh. Now that you know a little bit more about her and the studies she conducts, we wanted to share some of the pointers she had for adolescents and young adults coping with depression.

Here are some tips to help deal with depression from Dr. Erika Forbes, Ph.D:

  1. Don’t be afraid of getting help from a medical professional
  2. Take care of your basic needs (eating, sleeping, exercising, etc.)
  3. Stay on a schedule
  4. Go to school
  5. Be open to suggestions that might help
  6. Stay Active

Depression takes a toll on a person’s mind and body.  It is important to take care of yourself by continuing to participate in activities that you enjoy.  It might be difficult, but continuing to get out there will help from becoming isolated from the people you care about.

Do you have any tips and tricks to offer? We’d love to hear more suggestions below!
